Thermography printing, often known as "raised printing," is a 3D printed effect created by a three-step process of powdering, vacuuming, and heating.
These three steps occur sequentially, immediately following printing. Typically, all three stages take place on a conveyor belt in a single machine.

Powdering is the first step in the raised ink printing process. A sheet is put through a machine that coats the entire sheet with powdered resin after it has been printed but before the ink has set. This resin will only stick to the wet ink.
After the sheet has been pulverized, it is passed through a vacuum. Because the resin only sticks to the wet ink, the rest of the resin on the dry paper may be simply vacuumed away from the unprinted portions.
This extra resin can occasionally be collected and utilized in future raised ink printing, depending on the thermography machine.
The sheet is then fed into a heating device, which melts the resin. It can be heated for up to three seconds at temperatures ranging from 900 to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. As the resin melts, it draws up the underlying ink and rapidly cures, raising the ink on the paper's surface.
After the paper has been heated and the resin has set, it is taken from the heating unit and allowed to cool. The thermography procedure is now complete.
